English Leicester Longwool Sheep are a rare breed of sheep whose history goes back to the 18th century. They are recognized by the Amercian Livestock Breeds Conservency along with other endangered breeds of animals. One of the oldest English breeds, the English Leicester is a large sheep that has a heavy fleece of curly lustrous wool.
This type of fleece is desired by hand spinners and crafters. It accepts dyes, while the long locks are a favorite of doll makers
and wet felters. It is also suited for rug making. This wool is a coarser wool. Outer garments made from Leicester Longwool might require an undergarment for wearing comfort.
